Alto Recorder by Joachim Paetzold

  • Model: Paetzold
  • Pitch: A = 440 Hz
  • Wood: marbled plum wood
  • Built in: 1960s or 70s
  • Ships from: Spain
  • Price: 500 €
  • Current state: In the days before Joachim Paetzold became world famous for his bass recorders and there began to be a wait of a couple of years to get one, the renowned 20th-century German recorder maker produced instruments in all voices. Even then, Paetzold’s work was so highly prized throughout West Germany that a client might have to wait months for a Blockflute. Paetzoldt worked alone so this instrument was made by him personally. It’s a 440 in marbled plum wood, with a rust colored varnish, is totally in tune and has a lovely timbre, despite being at least half a century old. I’m tempted to keep it but it should be in the hands of a better player and/or a serious collector. A real ‘Schnaeppchen’ @ 500 Euros
