- Current state: Original French Baroque Flute Early 18th Century “Gaget à Bar.” Exceptional early transverse flute stamped on the head, the two bodies and the foot: “GAGET A BAR.” Very probably made around 1720–1730, so in the very first generation of four-part flutes; it is the only known flute by this maker. It is a very rare opportunity to play such an early original French instrument. Despite many repairs over the centuries, it is in excellent playing condition, with a full, round and even tone from low to high register. It plays at A = 400Hz, but if you pull out 5mm it can be played at 392 Hz without losing any of its qualities, and has been used in this way for many concerts and video + CD recordings. This flute has undergone a fairly extensive restoration, but some repairs, such as the part used to move the first hole in the left-hand body, are very probably almost contemporary with its manufacture.
